Archival vs. Collective Memory of Sir George Williams Student Occupation

My research for my MRP focuses around the Sir George Williams Student Occupation of 1968-1969 in Montreal and how it is remembered, specifically analyzing the tension that exists between public 'institutional'/national memory of this event vs. the collective memory of this event held by the Caribbean and Black communities of Montreal and Canada more broadly. The records at Concordia’s archives provide new potential historical ‘interpretations’ of the event, but there is a glaring lack of student’s experiences and memory within this archive. I am hoping to create a project that can serve as a place that hold this tension, to push the potentials of what an archive or collection can be, and how an archive can become more inclusive and accessible to all. I am interested in the potentials of digital image sonification for the project itself.
