Walking Africville

My MA research project aims to merge oral histories of former Africville residents with an interactive place-based audio walking tour of what is now Africville park. This audiowalk will blend historic soundscapes with life story to explore the intersections of memory, place, urban redevelopment, and home. By studying how former residents remember their community in the aftermath of displacement, this project will situate Black experience into the heritage landscape of Halifax, NS. It will allow the public to explore Halifax from a non-colonial heritage perspective. The primary objective of the project is to generate collaborative approaches to public history and Black Canadian history.
