My teaching is important to me, and I have used a number of techniques and resources to reflect on what I'm doing in the classroom (both concretely and abstractly). While at the University of Chicago, I worked closely with Catherine Baumann, the director of the University of Chicago Language Center and director of the German language program. I took a semester-length methods and theory seminar with Dr. Baumann (culminating in a research paper), and have invited her to observe my teaching (both language instruction and upper-level literature courses) on several occasions. I also participate in the Third-Year Working Group, which has been an ongoing discussion group for revamping the upper-level German curriculum at the University of Chicago (includes: textbook selection, new course design, overall program aims and goals, etc.).
I have also made frequent use of the resources offered by the Chicago Center for Teaching, including workshops on course design, integration of digital content, getting and using student feedback, and suggestions for creating an inclusive classroom.
