About Us

Phil Shinn is a communication technology geek with a PhD in linguistics.  He has worked for Cyara, Morgan Stanley, Genesys, Alcatel-Lucent, Bank of America, Hughes Research Labs, HeyAnita, Citibank,  Unisys and Speech Systems, among others.  He has designed and built dozens of speech and natural language applications in over 20 years in the industry, for companies like Apple, Allstate, Aetna, Nike, Walgreens, XPO and others. He is an application developer, voice user interface designer, speech scientist, text processing developer, program manager and project manager.  He is a principal author of the Voice User Interface Designer (VUID) Toolbox, an open source tool kit for designing speech recognition applications. Phil has served on the board of the Association of Voice Interaction Designers (AVIxD) and the Applied Voice Input Output Society (AVIOS).  He has 5 patents and he likes to surf.  His resume is here.  A selection of papers and presentations is here.
