She holds a Ph.D. in OB/HRM from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, and MSc in I/O Psychology from the University of Waterloo.

Ivona is a passionate researcher and educator. Her main program of research includes workplace diversity, equality, and inclusion. In her work, she focuses on gender, but also examines issues surrounding culture, ethnicity, language, and socio-economic background diversity. She has published in outlets such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Psychological Science, among others. Her work has been featured in numerous media outlets including Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, New York Times, and Globe and Mail. Her work is funded by Early Researcher Award from the Ontario Ministry of Research, Innovation and Science, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

She has been awarded with Research Fellowship with the Women and Public Policy Program at Harvard Kennedy School (2019-2020), and she was a visiting faculty at the University of Western Australia Business School in 2020, University of Amsterdam in 2018, Católica Lisbon (Portugal) in 2016, and RMIT University in Melbourne in 2014. Her research has also received numerous awards including the 2019 Distinguished Winner of the Responsible Research in Management Award co-sponsored by the International Association for Chinese Management (IACMR) and the Community for Responsible Research in Business and Management (RRBM). She has served on the editorial boards of Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Management, and Organizational Psychology Review, and she is currently serving as an Associate Editor at the Academy of Management Journal

She has also been serving as a Program Coordinator for the Canadian Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (CSIOP); and she served on a Board of Directors at Focus for Ethnic Women, a non-profit organization that helps immigrant and/or ethnic women to integrate into and navigate the Canadian workplace by providing a nurturing, culturally sensitive environment that builds self-esteem, social networks, employment related skills, and connections to meaningful employment. She has also consulted for the federal government of Canada on parental leave policies and the recruitment of women into the Canadian Armed Forces.

Ivona supervises a lab consisting of highly motivated and intellectually curious students. We currently have a number of projects examining diversity, equality, and equity issues ranging from the effect of work-family policies on women’s and men’s careers, underrepresentation of women in top leadership positions, to employees with accent and from different socio-economic backgrounds, among many other projects. We welcome new collaborators and new students!

On a personal note, Ivona is a proud mom of two young kids! She is also an avid traveler and enjoys spending her free time and vacations traveling with her husband, Andrej, and their kids Angelina and Aleksandra, exploring new cultures and food! Their favorite countries so far have been Australia (the whole family fell in love with Perth!), Portugal (loved Lisbon!), Peru, Spain, and the Netherlands. They were also thrilled with Hawaii (but not for its beaches) and found a hike on an active volcano quite an extraordinary experience! The next thing on their agenda is to semi-learn French (to be able to help their kids with school and hopefully help them travel to more French speaking countries) and, of course, travel more!
