Ever wondered what those numbers in your match summary mean? Here's how top players interpret their statistics to better understand their gameplay!
A simple measure of how much damage you output per minute, including attacks used to cancel incoming damage.
APM is noticeably correlated with glicko, so in general, bigger number = better. Top players can average up to 220 APM.
A straightforward measure of how fast you play. Multiply by 60 for Tetris Effect's DPM/Drops Per Minute statistic.
The fastest players can reach over 5 PPS in multiplayer.
With these two stats, we can already calculate one form of efficiency!
Calculated using the formula APM/(PPS*60), APP is a common measure of efficiency, showing how much players are getting out of each placed piece. Do note that garbage significantly affects this stat, so APP can be "farmed" by playing slower and clearing a larger proportion of received attacks.
The best players can maintain 1 APP on average in standard 1v1.
The last statistic shown in the match summary is also the most complicated one, calculated via:
[APP + DPP (Downstack Per Piece)] * PPS * 100
VS score is often a measure of board height; as such, the winning player will generally have higher VS for that round.
Because VS score has elements of both offense and defense, VS/APM becomes a measure of aggressiveness during a round. A VS/APM of over 2 indicates defensive play and vice versa for offensive play. Short rounds also tend to have low VS/APM as not much garbage has been cleared.
