While most of TETR.IO's new Quickplay mode is fairly intuitive, understanding some of the hidden mechanics can help you reach higher floors in the Zenith Tower.
Players ascend at a rate of 0.25m/s passively. By sending attacks, via either B2B attacks or combo, you receive bonus attitude from the attack instance and increase your climb speed. Climb speed decays naturally, decreasing faster at higher levels and if fewer attacks are sent.
The exact formula for bonus attitude is climb speed * 0.25 * attack.
Ex. At 8 climb speed, a B2B quad adds 8*0.25*5=10m
KOs are worth a flat 15 attack of bonus attitude.
Ex. At 8 climb speed, a KO adds 8*0.25*15=30m
Climb speed is more difficult to build up and maintain. In addition:
KOing a duo only counts as KOing one player
Canceled attacks reward no bonus attitude
Heights for each floor are as follows:
Floor 1: Hall of Beginnings - 0m
Floor 2: The Hotel - 50m
Floor 3: The Casino - 150m
Floor 4: The Arena - 300m
Floor 5: The Museum - 450m
Floor 6: Abandoned Offices - 650m
Floor 7: The Laboratory - 850m
Floor 8: The Core - 1100m
Floor 9: Corruption - 1350m
Floor 10: Platform of the Gods - 1650m
Usually, you must clear a line to ascend to the next floor.
In expert mode, you must send attack or KO someone to ascend to the next floor.
Fatigue mechanics make survival more difficult and appear starting at 8 minutes.
8 min: "FATIGUE SETS IN…"
2 lines of solid garbage appear
9 min: "YOUR BODY GROWS WEAK…"
Garbage received +25%
10 min: "ALL SENSES BLUR TOGETHER…"
3 more lines of solid garbage appear for a total of 5
11 min: "YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS FADES…"
Garbage received +25% for a total of +50%
12 min: "THIS IS THE END."
5 more lines of solid garbage appear for a total of 10
Outgoing attacks are sent randomly to players close by in height, with the exact target selected randomly with each attack instance. For attacks greater than 4, the damage is split so each player only receives 4 attack per instance. Garbage multipliers, such as those from Fatigue and the Volatile mod, increase the amount received per instance.
Incoming attacks are split into 4-row portions if the attack is greater than 8. There can be a maximum of 4 portions, and if the attack is greater than 16, the last portion can be of any value.
- An incoming attack of 1-7 enters normally
- An attack of 8 enters as [!] 4, 4
- An attack of 14 enters as [!!] 4, 4, 4, 2
- An attack of 20 enters as [!!] 4, 4, 4, 8
When an [!] appears along with its accompanying sound effect, the attack will arrive in 1 second. Each portion is separated by 0.5 seconds, and the number of beeps signifies the number of portions. Only one Windup can happen at a time; further attacks are queued until the current windup is over.
The Volatile Garbage mod doubles the numbers in Windup. Ex:
- An incoming attack of 1-15 enters normally
- An attack of 17 enters as [!!] 8, 8, 1
Entering Hyperspeed rewards players with a special BGM and speedrun timers for each floor.
A secret achievement, Zenith Speedrun, is achieved by reaching floor 10 with Hyperspeed.
Requirements to enter Hyperspeed are as follows:
Floors 1 and 2 = climb speed 8 (teal green; one parallelogram)
Floors 3 and 4 = climb speed 9 (cyan blue; two parallelograms)
Floor 5 = climb speed 10 (soft pink; three parallelograms)
From Floor 6 onwards, entering Hyperspeed is not possible.
At any point, if you dip below climb speed 7 (gold; last one without parallelograms) and become climb speed 6 (magenta), you lose Hyperspeed.
If you climb significantly higher than anyone else on the leaderboard, Height Distance Multiplier increases your attack received from lower players. Exact figures are unknown, but in general, reaching high attitudes will be easier if there is at least one other person close in height.
This is why Quickplay has become "harder." If no other good players are playing, it's very difficult to climb high.
Update Beta 1.3.1 has somewhat mitigated this issue, making it easier to climb past 3000m.
Players with Supporter may invite one other player to climb the tower together. While scores count for the Zenith Explorer achievement and unlock mods, setting records while Duoing is generally more difficult.
If one player tops out, the other player may attempt a revival through various tasks. See my revive guide for more details.
The surviving player receives 50% more garbage.
