My name is Lonnell Poole. I am a graduate of Bloom Township High School. I also have a degree from Middle Tennessee State University (BS) and Governor State University (MA). While in high school, I was state champion and record holder in the 180 yard low hurdles. With my performance at state, I was named All American. In college, I was conference champion and NCAA National qualifier.
My teaching career was spent at Bloom High School where I coached for 28 years. I have been a track and cross country official for 17 years. During this time, I have been a sectional official as a head or assistant starter and also meet referee. At the state cross country meet, I have served a marshall, assistant and head referee, and 3A boys starter. When I am not a part of the horizontal jump crew, I have served as a starter several times along with being assistant and head referee. I have also worked as assistant conflicts referee.
I have been involved with cross country and track & field since middle school. First as an athlete, then as a coach, and now as an IHSA official. As an official, I have had the honor of serving as a Starter at the state cross country meet, the Assistant Referee for Conflicts at the boys’ state track meet, and most recently as the Head Clerk of the girls’ state track meet.
For my day job, I teach AP Chemistry and a non-honors chemistry elective at Warren Township HS in Gurnee (no, the commute isn’t as bad as it looks).
I’m also the mom to Jack (who just competed in his first track meet this summer) and Anna (who cannot wait until she’s old enough to join in).
