Symposia

・Each symposium is allocated a total of two hours. Symposium organizers are free to determine the structure of their session, including the presentation time allocated to each speaker. They are also responsible for chairing the session and managing the schedule. 

・The entire session, including presentations, question-and-answer periods, and transitions between speakers, must not exceed two hours.

・The same guidelines for slide aspect ratio and connection cables as for oral presentations apply to symposia.

Oral Presentation

・The presentation time is 15 minutes, followed by a 3-minute question-and-answer session. Please complete the changeover between presenters within 2 minutes.

・Please use Microsoft Office PowerPoint for your presentation. A slide aspect ratio of 4:3 is recommended.

・In principle, please use your own computer for the presentation. (A Windows PC provided at the venue will also be available if needed.)

・HDMI and USB Type-C connections are available. Please test your laptop connection during COFFEE BREAK, LUNCH, or POSTER SESSION. Connection tests are not available during SHORT BREAK. In Room A on November 3 and 5, connection tests are also unavailable during LUNCH due to workshops. If there is a queue for connection tests, please give priority to presenters scheduled for that day. 

・Please serve as the session chair for the next presentation when you finish your presentation.

Poster Presentations

Format requirements: 

・The maximum poster size that can be displayed on the poster panel is A0 (841 mm wide × 1189 mm high). 

・Posters should be prepared in portrait orientation to fit the poster panels. 

・Please use tape to put up the poster on the walls, and push pins for poster panels. 

・Tape and push pins for mounting posters will be provided at the venue. 

・Each poster will be assigned a numbered poster panel. Poster numbers will be announced in the conference program.

Poster Schedule: 

・Poster presentations will be organized by topic and scheduled on designated days during the conference. Please check the conference program for your assigned presentation day, poster number, and core time. 

・Posters can be presented on Nov. 2 and 3 for presenters with a core time on Nov.3, and Nov. 5 and 6 for presenters with a core time on Nov. 5. 

・Posters should be displayed on the morning of the assigned presentation day, before the scientific sessions begin, and should remain on display throughout the day. Posters must be removed at the end of the presentation day.

Core Time: 

・To allow presenters an opportunity to view and discuss other posters, the poster session will be divided into two core-time periods on Nov. 3 and 5 according to poster number. 

・During the assigned core time, presenters are expected to be at their posters to present their work, discuss it with participants, and answer questions. 

・Presenters are encouraged to visit and discuss other posters outside their assigned core time.

Poster printing: 

・Poster printing will not be available at the conference venue. 

・Presenters are responsible for printing their posters in advance and bringing them to the conference.

Awards

・Applicants for the Presentation Award are assigned to eight and ten judging groups in the oral and poster presentations based on their first and second choices of research field indicated in their applications.

・Research fields with fewer applicants are grouped with closely related fields. As the number of applicants varies among research fields, the judging groups cannot be equal in size. One winner will be selected from each judging group. 

・The oral award winners will be announced on the final day of the conference, and poster award winners by the evening of November 5. Award-winning posters will be displayed again at the venue following the announcement. Therefore, participants who have entered the Poster Presentation Award are requested to keep their posters and not discard them until the end of the conference.

・The Society of Island Biology will select the Best Oral and Poster Presentation Awards from the recipients of the Oral and Poster Presentation Awards, and another award winner from senior researchers.
