This Island Biology 2026 logo was created by Zhang Ruiqi. The following is the artist’s comment on the work.
In this logo, island biogeography is represented through a combination of landforms, geological history, and representative organisms. The skink Plestiodon latiscutatus (Okada-tokage), representing reptiles, and the white-eye Zosterops japonicus insularis (Shichito-mejiro), well known for its pollination relationship with Camellia japonica (Yabu-tsubaki), a native camellia tree, are placed at the center. Around them, the endemic stag beetle Lucanus gamunus (Mikura-miyama-kuwagata) and the land snail Euhadra peliomphala simodae (Shimoda-maimai) are arranged to symbolize the unique biodiversity of the islands. In the background, Izu Oshima—with its characteristic caldera—and Mt. Fuji are depicted, representing both the planned excursion site and Atami, the conference venue located at the foot of Mt. Fuji.
