New Scout Guide
GETTING STARTED CHECKLIST
1. BUY YOUR SCOUT UNIFORM
Purchase your boy or girl’s Cub Scout Uniform at the Orange County Scout Shop located at 1211 East Dyer Road, Santa Ana, CA 92705. The full Cub Scout Uniform includes quite a few items, but the most important components are the shirt, the trousers or shorts, the hat, and the belt. Our Pack will provide your red 654 unit numeral patch.
As part of the uniform, if you buy from the Scout Shop, it should come with a few basic insignia attached, including the Flag and the Orange County Council patches. You will receive a Pack unit patch from us, but will need to purchase a Den number patch once you have been assigned to a Den.
Pack 654 has a limited number of donated “experienced” uniforms and handbooks available in our Scout Closet, which can help to offset the cost of starting as a new Scout. Please see our Scout Closet webpage to view the inventory available.
2. LEARN MORE ABOUT CUB SCOUTS AND TAKE REQUIRED BSA TRAINING

Next, safety is of primary importance while Scouting, and so it’s important that all our Adult leaders take Youth Protection Training. To do so, start by creating an account at my.scouting.org for each parent or guardian who will be actively participating in Scouting.
Once logged in, take the Youth Protection Training module (found on the right side of the landing page). Den leader and Committee Member training is also available from this site, but may be completed at a later time as needed.
E-mail your username and certificate of completion to trainer@irvinepack654.org.
3. SET UP YOUR SCOUTBOOK ACCOUNT
Pack 654 uses Scoutbook.com to coordinate all our scouting activities. Set up your account to stay aware of upcoming events, receive updates from Pack leadership, and track your scout’s advancement. And download the Scouting App for easy access on your iOS or Android phone!
You'll receive an invitation to the private website http://www.scoutbook.com. Follow the instructions provided to set up your account. If you haven’t received or can’t find your email, contact your Den Leader or any Pack leader for additional help.
4. JOIN US AT OUR NEXT PACK EVENT
Check out our Pack website at http://irvinepack654.org and like our Facebook group at www.facebook.com/irvinepack654 to see our public upcoming events. There you will meet other parents in the Pack and we can answer any new or remaining questions.
