A Den is a group of six to eight youth, within the pack, that meets several times a month between pack meetings. The youth in a den are the same grade and gender. The den structure allows Cub Scouts to build relationships with leaders and other Cub Scouts their age.
Scouts attend a den meeting with a small group of Scouts at the same gender and grade level. Dens in Pack 654 typically meet once per month, but the frequency of meetings is up to the den leader and families in the den. The meeting is conducted by a den leader. Many Dens divide the year's meetings up among their Den members, so that each month one or two Scouts (AKA "Denners") and their families plan and run the meeting.
The den may meet at the home of one of the leaders or at another suitable location, like a local park. Lions and Tigers must attend their den meetings with their adult partners, but we encourage family involvement at all levels.
While the meetings include games and other activities that are fun for the Scouts, program delivery is the main goal. Scouts participate in activities and work on projects that are related to an adventure and that help them learn the skills they need to progress in rank. They also prepare to do their part in the monthly pack meeting.
