How do I register for the colloquium?
Full information on how to register is available on the registration page.
Is the event programme available?
You can find the final programme here.
How do I get to Bolzano/Bozen?
Bolzano/Bozen is well connected by rail and has an airport. Please see the venue information page on the Eurac Research website for full details.
Is financial support available?
We do not make a surplus from running the event, so the amount of financial support we can offer is limited. However, we were able to make some funding available from IPSA to support attendance at the event and have indicated to select participants, students/early career academics that we will be able to partially cover their travel expenses to Bolzano/Bozen. Everyone selected has already been informed and we are unable to provide additional support at this stage (updated 15 May 2026).
How are the panels organised?
Paper-givers will have 12 to 15 minutes to give an overview of their paper, highlighting their findings, methods, purpose and significance of the study. Discussants will have up to 15 minutes in total to comment on the contributions of all papers and to identify connecting themes. Chairs will open and close the session, keep participants to time, and facilitate discussion with the audience. Papers should be submitted by 15 June and will be circulated to panel members after that time. The Q&A session is largely audience driven; chairs are encouraged to collect questions from several audience members at a time, to allow for further linking of themes and questions for the benefit of all panel participants.
Can I join the conference online?
We have planned and organised this colloquium as an onsite event; however, due to contemporary conflicts in the Western Asia we have accommodated presentations from scholars from the Global South unable to travel at this time. Book panels and the keynote address will also be broadcast online. Online panels will be available only to registered participants.
Will the conference be recorded/pictures taken?
Yes, our hosts will endeavour to take pictures and record some of the sessions of this colloquium (specifically, online panels, book panels and the keynote). We therefore ask everyone attending to confirm that they consent to being recorded and have their picture taken while on site in Eurac Research, throughout the event. Please fill in this form and return it to the organisers by email
How do I submit my paper?
Please submit your paper using this form by 15 June. Please use your name and the number of your panel as the file title (e.g., 2C Mario Rossi, 5A Jean Sérien 8B Horst Niemand, etc). Please note that discussants are under no obligation to discuss papers submitted after 15 June.
Will there be PowerPoint available?
Yes, each room should have PowerPoint capability. Please bring a copy of your presentation saved on a flash drive.
Will there be WiFi available?
Yes, eduroam provides WiFi access throughout the venue.
Can I live-skeet the panels?
Most definitely! The RC14 Bluesky account is @ipsarc14.bsky.social; you can also tag the main IPSA account, @ipsa.org, and the Eurac Research Minority Rights, @euracminorities.bsky.social, and Center for Autonomy Experience, @autonomyexperience.bsky.social, accounts in your posts. Please use the hashtag #ipsarc14bz.
Is there a colloquium dinner?
Yes, we have a dinner planned at a local restaurant, Paulaner, for 25 June. The cost is €50, which is to be paid at the time of registration. You will find a provisional suggested menu here. The restaurant has vegetarian and vegan options that don't appear on the provisional menu but which you can get an idea of from their regular menu. Preregistered participants only: if you have registered, please check if your name appears on the list here.
Are lunches and coffee breaks included?
Yes, the registration fee covers lunch and coffee breaks on 24, 25 and 26 June. Please note any dietary requirements using the event registration form.
Are there any excursions planned?
Yes, we have two excursions planned:
Culture of Remembrance: Historic guided tour of Bolzano/Bozen, with visit to Provincial Council, 23 June, 10:00-16:00, meeting at Eurac Research (free of charge, max 50 participants). Preregistered participants only: if you have registered, please check if your name appears on the list here.
Using monuments and buildings, this city tour of Bolzano/Bozen illustrates the history of nationalism in South Tyrol during the 19th century, the period of fascist and Nazi dictatorships, and the history of autonomy. After the city tour (and free time for lunch), we are guests at the Provincial Council of South Tyrol. One of its members will explain South Tyrol's autonomy and the responsibilities of the Provincial Council and will then be available to answer questions.
Excursion to Ladin Valleys, 27 June, 08:20-19:00 (approx), meeting at Eurac Research (€35, max 35 participants, to be paid on boarding the bus). Preregistered participants only: if you have registered, please check if your name appears on the list here.
This excursion takes us to Ortisei in Val Gardena/St. Ulrich in Gröden/Ortisei in Val Gherdëina, where we meet the president of the Union di Ladins de Gherdëina. She will introduce us to the Ladin people, their culture and their language. Thanks to South Tyrol's autonomy, Ladin culture is promoted and supported, as you can see from the trilingual place name signs in the valley. Sofia Stuflesser will also briefly discuss the special features of the Ladin school system. After lunch, we will travel through the world-famous Dolomites via the Grödnerjoch pass to the Museum Ladin Ciastel de Tor at San Martin de Tor/San Martino in Badia/St. Martin in Thurn, Val Badia, Gadertal. Here, we will delve once again into the history and lives of the inhabitants of the five Ladin valleys of the Dolomites.
Please note that participation in these excursions is only possible for preregistered participants.
