Step 1:
Prospective applicants (“mentees”) complete a sign-up form to indicate interest in joining the mentorship program. Mentees choose the type of help they would like (for example, resume review, essay review, mock interview, etc).
Step 2:
Mentorship program leadership uses the Information from the sign-up form to pair mentees with a genetic counselor mentor who has the relevant experience or interest (“primary mentor “).
Step 3:
Mentors and mentees are notified via email when the pairing is complete.
Step 4:
Mentors and mentees connect for personalized mentorship. Mentees are invited to group activities by their primary mentor or mentorship program lead.
Step 5:
After the application process, once graduate program interview invitations are received, the mentee reaches out to their primary mentor or the program lead to schedule a mock interview. The primary mentor may be able to conduct a second mock interview or the program will arrange a second mock interview with a different mentor based on availability and mentor/mentee preference.
Step 6:
The GC applicant mentorship program officially ends after the last graduate program interview in the application cycle. However, depending on mentor and mentee interest, interactions may continue beyond this time.
