PhD Student
I am a young researcher who was born in València, Spain, in 1996, quite a while ago. I graduated in Biotechnology with a minor in Plant Sciences at the Polytechnic University of València (UPV) and the University of Nottingham (UoN), where I spent a year as an Erasmus student. After successfully obtaining my BSc, I enrolled in the MSc in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), which granted me a studentship to continue with those studies, along with the “JAE Intro” fellowship from CSIC to undertake my Master’s Thesis.
While finishing the MSc, I commenced my professional career as well, performing a brief job as a Research Bioinformatician at the Institute for Integrative Systems Biology (Paterna, València), which was related to miRNA-mediated stress regulatory networks in plants. Nowadays, I am strongly motivated for the creation of innovative predictive methods and the study of complex biological data in the context of human diseases. Thanks to the “la Caixa INPhiNIT Retaining” fellowship, I am pursuing a PhD programme in Biomedicine and Bioinformatics at the Center for Cooperative Research in Biosciences - CIC bioGUNE (Bilbao), making deep inroads into the mechanisms and prognosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). More specifically, my main interest embraces the characterisation of the transcriptome of IBD patients and patient-specific determinants as segues to identify the hallmarks of drug-response, so that we can pave the way for prospective prescription of patient-tailored therapies.
I also fostered my personal communication skills at different conferences and symposiums, including ASHG and ECCO annual meetings and an event at IBMCP (València), where I presented my first published work based on my Bachelor’s Thesis (Cervera-Seco et al. 2019).
Outside of my career, I am passionate for cultural and multilingual exchanges. Indeed, I tried to learn to some extent a few languages (up to 7!), and I love to be busy with sports, like biking, swimming and a long etcetera, depending on my taste and season. Also, try to book my weekends in advance because they are booked quite often, travelling around the globe.
