Hello I’m Bea!

I was born in 1995 in Salamanca, a very beautiful city in Castilla y León, Spain. From 2013 to 2017, I studied there a Bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Salamanca. Moreover, during this time I got a scholarship to study in the United States, at the University of North Carolina, where I spent an academic year.

Then, in 2017 I moved to Valencia (Spain), to study a Master’s in Molecular, Cellular and Genetics Biology, at the University of Valencia. One of those days I was going to the hospital for my ulcerative colitis treatment, I thought why not doing my Master’s Thesis about Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). That is how I started my project about biomarkers to predict treatment response in IBD at La Fe Heath Research Institute (Valencia). After finishing my studies, I kept working there for the following three years, which led to several congress communications, scientific publications and book chapters.

In 2022 I obtained a grant from ONCE Foundation together with Ikerbasque Foundation to start my PhD studies at the Integrative Genomics Lab (Biscay, Spain), leaded by Urko M. Marigorta. My project, titled “Multi-omic characterization of the natural history of IBD”, consists in identifying the omic and molecular characteristics of early IBD stages and framing it on the natural history of the disease.

Besides science, I enjoy taking part of different social projects and raise IBD awareness. In 2019 I joined the Valencia Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis Organization (ACCU) as Youth Patients Representative.
