Event Schedule

This three half-day workshop presented by the Teaching and Learning Centre will enable instructors to redesign an assessment so that it is aligned, authentic, inclusive, AI‑aware, and sustainable. We will pay particular attention to the ways assessment design constraints and choices, such as format, instructions, grading processes/criteria, may affect students and instructors. We will also focus on managing workload (of students, instructors, TAs), consistency, and transparency during the workshop.  

For colleagues with larger classes, we’ll have a side session to discuss aspects of sustainability, scalability, and student engagement at scale. 

Each participant will leave with: 

• A student‑friendly explanation of their assessment

• A scalable assessment design

• A clear AI‑use statement

• A rubric/marking guide that is aligned with objectives and learning activities that is suitable for TA use

• A feedback strategy that works at scale

• A practical implementation plan

The workshop begins Tuesday, August 11, 2026 - Thursday, August 13, 2026 in the Teaching and Learning Centre (Robertson Library Annex, Room 228), with sessions running from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Looking for simple ways to increase student engagement without redesigning your course? Join the UPEI Teaching and Learning Centre for a practical Lunch and Learn on incorporating brief, evidence-informed active learning strategies into lectures. Explore techniques that help students think, discuss, retrieve, and apply what they are learning—all with minimal preparation. Participants will leave with practical strategies they can implement immediately in their own teaching.

The Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) is offering a one-hour onboarding session for new and newer sessional instructors and faculty. This session is an opportunity to learn about the resources, services, and teaching supports available to you at UPEI, including: 

• Instructional design support and professional development opportunities offered through the TLC 

• A brief introduction to Moodle, UPEI’s Learning Management System

• The principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and their application in post-secondary teaching

• Key elements of an effective and learner-centred course syllabus

Drawing on her widely recognized Developmental Framework for Teaching Expertise, Dr. Kenny will explore teaching expertise as a multifaceted, career-long journey that integrates teaching, professional learning, mentorship, scholarship, and educational leadership. Students, staff, faculty, and administrators are invited to join us to hear about new perspectives and practical ideas for fostering a more holistic and meaningful approach to recognizing, assessing, and supporting teaching excellence across the university. This interactive keynote will inform the work and recommendations of the Ad Hoc Senate Committee on Teaching Evaluation.
