The Office of Quality Assurance and Planning supports the UPEI’s quality assurance (QA) framework to ensure that academic programs and their related functions are engaged in an ongoing, cyclical quality assurance process. This office supports the strategic vision of UPEI in terms of providing quality education and educational experiences, while developing students to their full potential. The position also supports the Vice-President, Academic and Research (VPAR) with other academic planning and strategic initiatives at the University.
Our instructional designers are available for consultation for the development of new and existing courses using any delivery format—on-site, blended, hybrid, or online. Instructional designers can discuss teaching methods, identify accessibility barriers, debrief courses, organize projects, suggest new ideas, provide support for teaching tools, review your course outlines, co-develop assessments, or facilitate workshops. Instructional designers offer one-on-one consultations, workshops, and can participate in larger meetings upon request.

Teaching frameworks can be powerful guides in course design. Course instructors may find frameworks helpful in the design and development of new courses, learning activities and experiences or in the evaluation and re-development of existing materials and experiences.
In this course the development of expertise and other advances in the cognitive sciences are used to provide an evidence-based approach to how learning happens. This is then conveyed to participants as implications for teaching and learning.
There are many different grading methods and each method assesses learning and provides feedback in different ways too. During this workshop both formal and informal assessment methods are explored as well as rubric creation, giving feedback and using technology to assist in assessment.
This course provides participants with foundational knowledge of different approaches to course design. Good course design practices can be applied to many types of courses including online, classroom, blended, labs and more. We will provide a theoretical overview of course design, some practical examples and activities for participants to work through in their own courses while keeping student engagement in mind.
