Strategies for Protein Target Identification

We need to know how the disease mechanism and its pathway in the body work, as this will let us know if the protein is a good protein target. There are a few ways to do this:

Mining for literature:  Searching through scientific papers for proteins that play a role in the disease pathway is significant in CADD. Literature mining can be performed by looking for proper research papers in databases like Google Scholar and PubMed.

Genomics and proteomics are the study of gene expression data (genomics) and protein expression and interaction data (proteomics) to find proteins that are not working correctly in a disease state.

Pathway Analysis: Mapping out the biological pathways that are involved in the disease to find possible points of intervention. Proteins situated at critical junctures within these pathways may serve as effective targets.

Target Validation Studies: Conducting experimental investigations (e.g., gene knockout, overexpression) to confirm the role of a specific protein in the disease mechanism.
