"...[M]y sister wrote the original poem. She told me that she 'wanted to encapsulate the quiet, muffled feeling of a snowy night' and that the idea of a 'dancer whirling through the snowflakes and the stars' came to her later. I read the poem and liked the rhymes, and especially the phrasing, so I tried to create a song that would emphasize the feeling it gave off. I alternated the lines (for rhyming purposes), I wrote the chorus, and I switched the perspective from first to third, because I tend to think of my sister as the dancer in the song. It's special to me because the song never gets old, and each time I perform it I feel a renewed sense of pride in my sister's talent."
[verse]
The snow is white and soft
Flakes hold her conscience aloft
Her eyelashes are frosted white
The world outside is small and bright
Her dress is ice that’s made of silk
White rolled onto her like milk
It slips and runs over her skin
Between her lips is still and thin
Ooo, ooo, ooo
[chorus]
She’s a moon dancer
The stars all bend around her at her will
She’s a moon dancer
Nothing left inside her to fulfill
[verse]
Her arms are weightless and aerial
Voices hum songs at a burial
They swirl around her in a dance
Though nothing is there at a glance
She leaps up through the silent storm
Nothing meant to just perform
Flying, twirling with a grace
Ice curls the air a fragile lace
Ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo
[chorus]
‘Cause she’s a moon dancer
The stars all bend around her at her will
She’s a moon dancer
Nothing left inside her to fulfill
[bridge]
The moon shines bright in the frozen sky
Her spins refuse to tell a lie
The world holds its silver breath
The stars await their tragic death
She skips frozen from star to star
Each leap leaves a pearly scar
They dance with her, shining in rays
The moon sighs with its gentle gaze
Ooo, ooo, ooo
Ooo, ooo, ooo
[chorus]
She’s a moon dancer
The stars all bend around her at her will
She’s a moon dancer
Nothing left inside her to fulfill
[chorus]
She’s a moon dancer
The stars all bend around her at her will
She’s a moon dancer
Nothing left inside her to fulfill
