'Simple Days' started as a writing exercise.

In early 2023, I had begun writing songs almost daily. I was always looking for an excuse to write. The song 'Simple Days' was just an exercise to write a song for the day, but I liked it. I was probably thinking about the workload I was constantly putting on myself (due mostly to procrastination) and I was thinking about when everything was much simpler a decade ago. 

The main idea was to switch between two separate time periods; the main bulk of the song talks about how easy it is when you are younger (the simple days follow simpler nights, etc) and the chorus talks about reliving that simplicity as an older individual (go back home where the day can be so easy, etc). The song represents inner thoughts in a way.

'Grand Opening' was an instrumental I had recorded the previous November. I always liked the song, but it didn't fit anywhere until I was filling out the single. It was more of a jam, but I think its fun.
