Wild Horses can be found at any time while exploring the Hoofbeat Plains and finding a random horse encounter.
Catching wilds can be a great way to add in new bloodlines to herds, start new breeds over time, or make extra income through selling via things like Auctions.
Wilds are a step up from foundation horses, and even some Breed Coin / Magic Token made customs. Giving a decent starting PS, promised 3+ stars (usually 4+), and a small TB range.
Wilds can be a good way to find harder to come by or obtain genes for example Mushroom in Shetlands or Manchado in Thoroughbreds and Arabians.
Wilds can be any currently in game pure breed. Rare Breeds in game do come with technicalities and restrictions though which can be found below.
Chincoteagues can ONLY be found in the wild or by using a special item called a "Chincoteague Coin" which has only ever been available for sale TWICE since their addition to the game.
Marwaris can only be found in the foundation store or the wilds on the 5th of each month.
Akhal-Tekes can only be found in the foundation store or the wilds on the 17th of each month.
To explore in the first place players need at least 1 horse with 2%+ Energy and the Explore Pathway marked in their settings. Horse energy cannot be regained over time or through item use, horses only regain energy after nightly rollover.
To pick up items or try to catch wild horses players need to have at least 5%+ player energy available. Player energy can be regained every 5 minutes or through items found in general store like coffee.
After catching a wild horse there is *close to* 15 minutes until you can catch your next one.
Hitting 'Approach' will take 5% player energy and then progress the encounter so that you can see the horses image, stars, wildness meter / profile, and general information like age, breed, and gender.
After viewing the horse in question the player can decide to try and capture or to shoo the horse away and continue exploring. Neither choice uses player energy.
Players can make choices to try and catch the horse. While using options like Petting or Treats the goal is to get the bond bar to 75%. You can go higher but it will waste resources. Once the bond bar is at or above 75% you can try your luck at taking them home. While using Whistles the player tries their luck at bypassing the bond mechanic.
At any point the horse can run - ending the encounter.
Petting a horse uses 10% player energy each time
Petting can either add or remove bond by varying amounts
Feeding Treats does not consume player energy
Different treat types will increase the bond bar by different %s
Different Breeds / Body Types prefer certain treats over other ones. Using a preferred treat will increase the bond bar more than other treats
Lassos at this time are not really recommended or worth using
Lassos are used to lower the 'wildness' bar to the left of the horse
Using a whistle does not consume player energy
Whistles have a chance to auto catch and bypass the bond system
Whistles can lower any bond already gained
Treat items can be found through exploring the Hoofbeat Plains, random site pop ups, or through player sales in either the marketplace or auctions.
Treats have 3 tiers (found below) which change the amount of bond they provide when capturing a wild. To upgrade through the tiers players can use the Craft Room found under Account. Crafting has a fee that changes based on what you are crafting.
Treat Ingredients come in 3 types
1) Base Ingredients
Alfalfa and Oats
2) Flavor Ingredients
Apple, Carrot, Clover and Peppermint
Peppermint is a winter only find
3) Special Ingredient
Molasses
Treat Ingredients when fed to a wild give 3% bond if not preferred, 5% bond if preferred
To make a Regular Treat players need to head to the Craft Room and then the Cooking Tab.
In one slot the player then needs to select a Base Ingredient and in the other slot a Flavor Ingredient.
Regular Treats when fed to a wild give 6% bond if not preferred, 10% bond if preferred
To make a Sweet Treat players need to head to the Craft Room and then the Cooking Tab.
In one slot the player then needs to select a Regular Treat and in the other slot Molasses (Special Ingredient)
Sweet Treats when fed to a wild give 16% bond if not preferred, 20% bond if preferred.
Molasses cannot be used on its own - Sweet Treats are where it shines.
I cannot take credit for the below information (I can only take credit for turning it into a chart LMAO). A huge shout out to Pippin and those from the community who put in time and resources into finding this out! To view the original thread in game click here
The best way to remember this is to learn what breeds are what body type and then remember what treat is for which body (or keep this guide or the chart near by at all times). While you do not need to always use a preferred treat - it can help in gaining bond faster and giving horses less chances to run away.
Peppermint super special in that it is a preferred treat type for ALL breeds.
When using a Regular or Sweet Treat, one of the ingredients in it must match the preferred list below to get the best bond increase.
