1) The market for horses and items can change at any time based on the player base and in game economy. This means things can have fluctuating prices and may gain or lose community interest at any time.
2) What works best for one player may not work best for another. I heavily recommend playing around and finding which mechanics you enjoy best and working off of what you can lean into the most
3) Some items like Seasonal Dyes or Peppermint Treat Ingredients can only be found in game during certain seasons vs all year around. Use this to your advantage when stocking up or selling items. This also goes for select tack and decor items. Some things can be bought year round, while other items only show up in certain seasons or for certain events (whether found or bought).
4) Currently the community has a pretty strong and solid stand point on Ingot to Bit conversion. 1 Ingot is worth 500 Bits.
To better understand the HoFa market I cannot recommend enough checking in with the Marketplace and Auction pages often. Doing this can help you better understand where things currently sit in terms of prices, community interest, and see what is or isn't being moved. I also recommend if possible joining the Official HoFa Discord Server as it offers players the ability to use dedicated spaces to get help, get price checks, and opens up a whole new world of resources and player communication directly at your finger tips. Of course checking in and observing the in game forums and shouts can also lend insight into the current market state of the game.
Another useful resource found in game, which can help players gauge a breeds popularity is the Hall of Fame Horse Totals tab. As horse populations shift around so does their ranking in game, however an important note is that HoF does NOT include frozen horses, so this can change as more or less players freeze their accounts or horse tabs for any set duration of time.
For those who have the finances to support the game you can go buy things like Ingots, Campaign Coins, Special Yearly / Seasonal Tack, etc and then sell it back to other players for Bits. Not only does this method help the game stay afloat but also helps other players who may not have the irl funds get resources they may need. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please only use this option IF YOU ARE ABLE TO. Yourself, your family, your pets, etc all come first so please do not put yourself in a tough spot in the name of a game. Take care of you and yours first before supporting the game.
Players can buy Ingots and Campaign Coins through the Ingot Shop. To access this page players just need to click on their Ingot Amount, similar to clicking on Bit Amount to access the bank.
Why are ingots useful to players? Ingots have many uses in the game may get used more or less by certain players. Examples are:
Design Lab (going over your color points), Foal Predictor (5 Ingots to predict color, 10 ingots to also predict BS, BV, and PS), Stable Transport Slot Upgrades, Select items from both General Store and Emporium when its open (special tack, custom tokens, boosts, etc), paying for select stud/brood offers - auctions - marketplace trades, buying art from other players, bidding on Dev Custom Auctions, buying account upgrades like Enter All or Training Manuals, paying for Bronze subscription, certain crafting fees in the Craft Room, etc
Careers
When a horse has the Career Pathway checked, and a Career selected, players can then send horses off 5 times a day (each time takes 30 minutes) to earn some extra bits. Careers DO NOT have an entry fee, so outside of horse care it is a promised profit. Bits earned can very depending on how well the horse performs the in the selected career. Model career is automatically unlocked for all players, the other careers must be purchased in the Construction Store if desired.
Discipline and Halter Shows
Disc and Halter shows CAN make players a decent amount of money, but are not a promised profit. Both of these show have entry fees and money earned is dependant on how well your horse places. Because of these factors it is possible to have these shows actually put you in debt. Usually Discipline and Halter Shows are recommended more so once you have some funds and a better understanding of some of the mechanics - but buying well bred horses from other players early on with early showing.
Rose where can I get cheap horses to get me started (this can go for explore horses too!)?
For cheap horses you can always check out the rescue found under "Market" or go see if other players have some cheap horses available for sale. To see horses for sale you can either check out the Marketplace or use the Search Horses feature.
Dark Horse Mine
For 5% player energy a player can go explore the mine and continue using 5% energy to explore further until they reach 0%. By exploring the mines players have the chance to find gems, bits, or ingots. Gems can then either be sold to other players or used to encrust tack like saddles for added boosts and customization. Unlike the Hoofbeat Plains, items found in the Dark Horse Mine can be found year round and there are no seasonal items here.
Gems: Amethyst, Apatite, Blue Sapphire, Citrine, Emerald, Garnet, Labradorite, Onyx, Quartz, Rose Quartz, Ruby
Bit Amount: 1-200
Ingot Amount: 2-6 (Being looked into more)
If you find a bit amount or ingot amount outside of this range please let me know (with a screenshot) so I can update!
Hoofbeat Plains
Players can explore the Hoofbeat Plains as long as they have a horse with the pathway "Explore" checked with more than 2% energy, and pick up items or try to catch wild horses as long as they have 5%+ player energy. Explore has both general and seasonal items which can all sell for different amounts depending on the game economy and player base. Examples of items are: Flower Decorations, General Dyes, Seasonal Dyes, Seasonal Decor, Treat Ingredients. Players can also find Wild Horse Encounters which can be caught and added to their own herds or sold (best through auctions or directly to higher paying players) for extra income.
General Dyes: Black, Blue, Green, Grey, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, Yellow
Spring Dyes: Dandelion, Dusty Green, Lavender, Mint, Orange Crush, Pollen Green, Powder Blue, Rose Gold, Thistle
Summer Dyes: Bubble Gum, Cobalt Blue, Electric Purple, Neon Green, Sky Blue, Sunburn, Teal
Fall Dyes: Burnt Leaf, Dark Emerald, Deep Blue, Midnight, Mulberry, Mustard, Sage, Velvet Red, Wine
Winter Dyes: Cinnamon, Dark Teal, Deep Amethyst, Evergreen, Frasier Fir, Ice, Navy, Snowcream, Sugar Cookie
Community -> Forums -> Art Sales (or which ever other sub forum is more correct)
A good way for those who make art or know coding is to offer things like custom Avatars, Horse Backgrounds, Banners, Signatures, Profile Decorations or Coded Stable Layouts. This option can help players earn Bits or Ingots through creation. Make sure to follow the Art Sales Rules like no AI art, proper credits for line art or references, etc.
Avatar: 150x150
Horse Background: 950x550 (this is the size used for official HoFa backgrounds)
Profile + Club Banner: 1060x200
Signature (Personal): 500x150
To use custom Avatars a player must be a Bronze Subscriber or higher. To use custom Horse Backgrounds a player must be Platinum Subscriber.
Coding for Stable Layouts can be entered in the "Settings" tab under Estate -> Manage in the second (the larger) text box. This is not as often offered and coding layouts on HoFa may take some trial and error.
Game Room
The Game Room can be found by clicking on "Town" (not one of the dropdown options) and finding "Game Room" in the list of hyperlinked areas. The Game Room currently offers 2 game options: Higher or Lower / Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Higher or Lower: This game can be played as many times as you want and each correct guess you will earn 100 bits.
Rock Paper Scissors: This game can only be played 20 times per day and each time you win you will earn 100 bits.
The Bank
The Bank can be found by either clicking on your current bit amount, or by clicking on "Market" (not one of the dropdown options) and finding "Bank" in the list of hyperlinked areas. This point won't make you mass money fast, but every Sunday (in game) the bank will earn some interest on money in the bank (not on hand). Money can be moved between hand and bank at any time with no cooldowns between. Sticking some money in the bank you don't actively need sitting around can be a great way to earn some money over time
The best thing I can recommend for learning and getting the latest insight to pricing items and horses is by joining the Official Discord Server and getting help in the #price-check channel. For those who do not have the ability to join discord, I do have a [Help] Pricing Assistance page that talks about some of the more consistent pricing I have seen / use for select items, and some personal things I do - but this is not meant to be a 100% answer, more so a base system for you to play and test around with.
Feel free to reach out to me with your tips and tricks and I will look into them!
