I normally reserver auctions for Wild Horses I have caught in the Hoofbeat Plains, but will occasionally make exemptions for super special foundation or lined horses. For the sake of what I mainly use auctions though the following information is for wild horses.
10k is a solid starting bid for any wild horse. However for breeds or horses I know may not easily sell I will lower this to 1k per stars. For horses with super rare or high demand genes in breeds that have good interest, I will raise this starting bid to something higher (15-50k Starting Bid).
I like having a min bid increase of 500-1k, but for those harder to sell horses I will set it to 100.
I do not personally set auto buys on horses I know will probably do well as I want to encourage bidding. But if you are looking for the potential of fast money, setting it to say 200-800k depending on the horse isn't abnormal. For those harder sellers or more plain horses my auto buy is usually 10-20x the starting bid (example horse has a 4k starting bid, my auto buy is 40k or 80k depending on the horse)
I try to make auctions end somewhere between 4-8pm if I can. I find these end times work best for me and give more players the possibility of seeing it towards the end.
My personal 'DO NOTS' when auctioning a horse:
I do not set a disc / career and start training in it
I do not start showing, disc, or careering. I also do not use them for explore.
My personal "Do's" when auctioning a horse:
If its a foal I will start and try to finish foal training if I can so the next owner doesn't have to worry
I make sure all horses are gene tested as this can play into a horses price. If I have the funds I make sure they are registered.
I use a custom name system for horses I place into the auction house. This helps me know when looking at horses I posted it, and helps viewers know important info about the horse.
Here is my personal auction name tag: |🦝| #⭐Wild [Breed]| DS | genes |🦝| # turns into how many stars, after Wild I add the breed, DS turns into "Dappled" "Rev Dappled" or "Dapple Carrier" if I know, genes turns into fun genes the horse carries. Some people simply do #⭐Wild [Breed]. You can get as fancy or not fancy as you like, but this can help draw people in.
If a horse doesn't sell I lower the price and list them again. If they don't sell a second time then I will either use for explore, retire, or try to sell for a really low flat fee.
My flat sales horses are normally lined horses or foundation pull horses I don't need. I have a pretty simple and straight forward system I use, but it by no means makes me a lot of money.
Foundation Horses:
500 for 1-3 stars, 750 for 4 stars or known dapple carriers, 1k for 5 stars or full dapple (rare occasions a foundation may go to auction instead, this depends on the foundation horse)
Lines Horses:
+1k per every 10 levels, +1k for known dapple carriers, +2k if full dapples
Any additional fees added are fully dependent on gene rarity / interest. For example that +2k full dapple may change to an additional fee if Reverse Dapple instead.
A large majority of my horses follow a specific system: 10k Base fee, +1k per star, +1k if known dapple carrier, +2k full dapple
Any additional fees added are fully dependent on gene rarity / interest. For example that +2k full dapple may change to an additional fee if Reverse Dapple instead.
Some of my more special horses use altered systems (Like purebred Roan Arabians since the gene can no longer be naturally found in them)
