1-One-On-One Conferences/Small group conferences:
Have a conversation about a topic that you would like to assess.
What skills are important right now?
What skill is the student struggling with?
Advantages to hosting conferences:
Allows for progress monitoring during a unit
Correct misconceptions immediately, reteach if necessary.
Relationship building
2-Assign assessments that require higher order thinking:
Analyzing and creating media products using persuasion
Creating digital stories
Practicing literacy strategies that include self-evaluation and goal setting (metacognition)
3-Digital Quizzes
Use Google/Microsoft Forms in conjunction with a video conferencing unit (for small groups)
Provide each student with their own link to the video conference meeting
Ask students to keep their camera on throughout the assessment
Ask the students to share their screen
Teacher monitors all windows during the assessment.
Consider breaking the test into smaller tests and administering it over a few days. (Morin, 2020)
4-Use Google Docs or Google Slides to observe progress
Allows you to provide feedback through comments (students must share the document and allowing editing privileges)
When students are working in groups, you can use the version history to see who has contributed to the document.
Using a Google Doc per student allows you and a co-teacher (remedial or supporting) to contribute notes to track progress. This can also be shared with the student and parents. (Serravallo, 2020)
(Gray, 2020)
1-Prepare the conversation. Here are suggested questions/prompts:
What are you learning about?
Tell me more about that.
Ask specific questions about the learning targets.
Ask questions about personal learning goals that have been set out for the student.
Paraphrase the student’s answers

2-Document student progress

(Miller, 2018)
When correcting multi step assignments, such as a math problem, consider videotaping yourself working through the problem. Send the video out through your learning management system (ex: Google classroom) to the students that need the step by step support to solve the problem. They can review their steps and correct their errors.
