On October 20 and 21, the Nuclear Engineering Section of the Military Institute of Engineering promoted the extension course entitled “Alpha Spectroscopy with Surface Barrier Detector / PIPS”.
Below is some information about the course.
1. PURPOSE
The short-term course aims to promote the professional improvement of teachers, researchers and other interested professionals, sharing technical and scientific knowledge in the area of nuclear detection and instrumentation applied to alpha particles.
2. TARGET AUDIENCE / PREREQUISITE
The course is intended for complete high school or higher education professionals who work or will work in the area of nuclear detection and instrumentation. To understand the syllabus, prior knowledge of Fundamentals of Ionizing Radiation and Radiological Protection is required.
3. SYLLABUS
- Technical characteristics of the BIN, oscilloscope, multichannel buffer (MCB), alpha spectrometer and vacuum pump.
- Multichannel calibration with alpha fonts.
- Survey of energy spectrum of alpha sources.
- Survey of calibration curve.
- Survey of net spectrum of alpha sources.
- Determination of energy resolution of alpha sources.
- Comparison of spectra surveyed in different detectors.
- Use of data acquisition program to survey energy spectra.
