Welcome to Minakuchi! Every year on April 19th and 20th, our town comes alive with the sights and sounds of the spectacular Minakuchi Hikiyama Festival. You will see 16 massive, beautifully decorated floats (Hikiyama) parading through the streets, accompanied by the soulful melody of traditional music (Minakuchi Bayashi).

But to truly experience the magic of this festival, we invite you to look a little deeper. This is not just a parade; it is the heart and soul of our community.

The Magnificent Floats (Hikiyama): More Than a Museum

Our Hikiyama are often called "moving museums" for their stunning craftsmanship—intricate wood carvings, brilliant gold leaf, and priceless tapestries.

During the parade, this music is not a pre-recorded track; it is played live from within the floats. The musicians watch the pullers and feel the energy of the crowd, adjusting the tempo in real time. The music breathes with the festival. It truly is the heartbeat of Minakuchi.
