SCHOOL YEAR 24-25

Our students of 1º ESO have taken a guided tour in English of the cathedrals in our city, an activity proposed within the programme by the Foundation Salamanca Ciudad de Saberes, called The First Settlements and the Cathedral Builders.

Led by an American guide, our students have learned more about the legends and history of our city, as well as its cathedrals.

Los alumnos/as de 1º ESO han realizado una visita guiada en inglés a las catedrales de nuestra ciudad, actividad propuesta dentro del programa de la Fundación de Salamanca Ciudad de Saberes, llamada The First Settlements and the Cathedral Builders.

De la mano de una guía americana, nuestros alumnos/as han conocido más a fondo las leyendas y la historia de nuestra ciudad así como de las catedrales.

To celebrate Halloween, this year we have worked in collaboration with the Counselling Department to raise awareness among our students about mental health.

All our students in the Bilingual Programme have participated in creating a mural titled Don't Ghost Your Mental Health. You're Bootiful, playing with the English words Beautiful and Boo. Around the title, the students have placed the ghosts they have created, each with a phrase suggesting things one can do to feel good (to feel "beautiful"). They really enjoyed taking part in this activity!

Para celebrar la festividad de Halloween, este año hemos trabajado en colaboración con el departamento de orientación para concienciar a nuestro alumnado acerca de la salud mental.

Todos nuestros chicos/as de la Sección Bilingüe han participado en la creación de un mural con el título Don't Ghost Your Mental Health. You're Bootiful, (No ignores tu salud mental. Eres booonito/a), haciendo un juego de palabras con las palabras inglesas Beautiful (guapo/a) y Boo (sonido hecho para asustar). Alrededor del título, los alumnos/as han colocado los fantasmas que han creado con frases que incluían cosas que se pueden hacer para sentirte bien (para sentirse "guapo/a"). ¡Han disfrutado mucho con esta participación!

As every year, our students in 4º ESO have taken their language immersion trip to England, specifically to the coastal town of Broadstairs, in the county of Kent, in the southeast part of the country.

For a week, the students have lived with English families and have taken part in all kinds of activities shared with students from other schools and countries (this year, they coincided with German, Italian, and Spanish students from Madrid and Andalucía).

In the mornings, our students attended English classes (divided by level and mixed with European students), and in the afternoons, they participated in various activities, always under the supervision of native-speaking instructors. Moreover, they enjoyed a day trip to London and afternoon visits to Canterbury and Ramsgate.

It has been a very rewarding experience that has allowed our participating students to improve their linguistic competence in English.

Broadstairs, England

Como cada año, nuestros alumnos/as de 4º ESO han realizado su viaje de inmersión lingüística a Inglaterra, más específicamente a la localidad costera de Broadstairs, en el condado de Kent, al sureste del país.

Durante una semana, los alumnos/as han convivido con familias inglesas y han realizado toda clase de actividades compartidas con alumnado de otros institutos y países (este año han coincidido con alemanes, italianos y españoles de Madrid y Andalucía).

Por las mañanas nuestros chicos/as acudían a clases de inglés (divididas por niveles y mezcladas con los alumnos europeos) y por las tardes todos realizaban distintas actividades, siempre bajo la supervisión de monitores nativos. Además, disfrutaron de una excursión de un día en Londres y otras a Canterbury y Ramsgate por las tardes.

Ha sido una experiencia muy gratificante que ha permitido a nuestros alumnos/as participantes poder mejorar su competencia lingüística en inglés.

The students in 2nd ESO from the Bilingual Programme, together with the students of 1st ESO, carried out a cultural project on the legend of King Arthur, which was displayed in the school library during the months of January and February.

Based on their term reading in English, the students of 1st ESO presented their artistic works on listening comprehension and writing, delving into the culture and literature of the English language. The exhibition was complemented with Geography and History materials from some students from 2nd ESO in the Bilingual Programme, who have been studying the Middle Ages in class, as well as various books and comics loaned by different municipal libraries. The Art Department, from the Bilingual Section, also collaborated in the creation of the exhibition materials.

Additionally, several questionnaires by level (ESO - Bachillerato and Bilingual Programme) on the Arthurian legend were set up in the school library to be answered while visiting the exhibition. There were even prizes related to the theme (books, comics, USBs, pencils, mugs) for the students who got the most correct answers, and a monetary reward for the most participative class with the best overall results, which they could spend in the school cafeteria.

We thank the public municipal libraries Gabriel y Galán and Torrente Ballester, as well as our students of 2nd ESO in the Bilingual Programme, for the additional materials they lent us for the exhibition.

Los alumnos/as de 2º ESO Bilingüe realizaron junto con los alumnos de 1º ESO un proyecto cultural sobre la leyenda del Rey Arturo, el cual ha estado expuesto en la biblioteca del centro durante los meses de enero y febrero.

A partir de su lectura trimestral en Inglés, los alumnos/as de 1º ESO nos presentaron sus trabajos artísticos de comprensión auditiva y de redacción, profundizando en la cultura y literatura de la lengua inglesa. La exposición se completó con materiales de Geografía e Historia de algunos alumnos/as de 2⁰ESO Bilingüe, que han estado trabajando en clase la Edad Media, y varios libros y comics prestados por distintas bibliotecas municipales. El Departamento de Plástica, desde la Sección Bilingüe, también ha colaborado en la elaboración de material expositivo.

A su vez, se habilitaron en la biblioteca del centro varios cuestionarios por niveles (ESO - Bachillerato y Bilingüe) sobre la leyenda artúrica para responder mientras se visitaba la exposición. Incluso hubo premios relacionados con la temática (libros, comics, USB, lápices, tazas) para los alumnos/as que más respuestas acertaran y una recompensa económica para que la clase más participativa y con mejores resultados en conjunto gastase en la cafetería del centro.

Agradecemos a las bibliotecas públicas municipales Gabriel y Galán y Torrente Ballester, así como a los alumnos de 2⁰ ESO Bilingüe, los materiales adicionales que nos han prestado para la exposición.

Our students from the Bilingual Section in 2nd ESO took part in a language immersion trip within Spain this April, specifically in the town of Vegaquemada (in the province of León). There, they spent a few days with students from other schools, taking part in sports activities and recreational workshops, using English as the language of instruction throughout the entire experience. The students truly made the most of it!

Nuestros alumnos de 2º ESO de la Sección Bilingüe han participado en un viaje de inmersión lingüística dentro de España en el mes de abril, más concretamente en la localidad de Vegaquemada (provincia de León). Allí han compartido unos días con alumnos/as de otros centros escolares, realizando actividades deportivas y talleres lúdicos usando en todo momento el inglés como lengua vehicular. ¡Los alumnos han aprovechado a tope la experiencia!

To celebrate the 160th anniversary of the first publication of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the students of 1st Bachillerato PECI have read Lewis Carroll’s original work in digital format. They have analysed its structure, meaning, and context, and prepared a theatrical adaptation of the last two chapters to perform in front of our students of 1st and 2nd ESO, who also read an adapted version of the book. In the previous term, these younger students created materials for a library exhibition: themed reading boxes for each character, including letters addressed to the character and to the author.

The performance also included participation from the students of 1st ESO in the Bilingual Section, who presented a rhythm exercise prepared in Physical Education, portraying the Queen of Hearts’ soldiers, and wore colorful costumes they created in Arts and Crafts classes. This made the project an interdisciplinary and cross-level collaboration within the Bilingual Section, as part of the English Department’s "Activities to Promote Bilingualism with Primary Schools."

After the performance, an informal discussion was held, moderated by the language assistant, who helped both bilingual and non-bilingual students formulate their questions in English. The students of 1st Bachillerato PECI answered questions about the symbolism of various elements as well as the author’s and characters’ intentions.

Our aim is to share this experience with some of the Primary Schools affiliated with our center, to showcase the unique work being carried out in the Bilingual Section.

Alicia en el País de las Maravillas cumple 160 años de su primera publicación. El alumnado de 1º de Bachillerato PECI ha leído en formato digital la obra original de Lewis Carroll, ha analizado su estructura, su significado y contexto y ha preparado una adaptación teatral de los dos últimos capítulos para representarla delante de los alumnos/as de 1º y 2º ESO, que también han leído una versión adaptada de la obra y habían elaborado el trimestre anterior materiales para una exposición en la biblioteca (cajas lectoras tematizadas según cada uno de los personajes, con cartas dirigidas al personaje y al autor).

En la representación han participado también los alumnos/as de 1º ESO de la Sección Bilingüe con un ejercicio de ritmo que han preparado en Educación Física, como los soldados de la Reina de Corazones, y un vestuario vistoso que han elaborado en Plástica. Ha sido, por tanto, un trabajo interdisciplinar e internivelar de la Sección Bilingüe, en el marco de las "Actividades de visibilización del bilingüismo con los colegios de Primaria" del Departamento de Inglés.

Después de la actuación se organizó un coloquio informal en el que el auxiliar de conversación ejerció como moderador, ayudando a los alumnos/as (bilingües y no bilingües) a formular sus preguntas en inglés. Los alumnos/as de 1º de Bachillerato PECI respondieron cuestiones acerca de la simbología de los elementos o la intención del autor y los personajes.

Nuestra intención es compartir esta experiencia con alguno de los colegios de Educación Primaria adscritos al centro, para mostrar el trabajo diferente que se hace en la Sección Bilingüe.
