LATE CHANGE

The Power Up Together self advocacy event for people with learning difficulties and autism will now take place from 12.30pm to 2.30pm on Thursday 5th Dec (instead of on Friday 6th).  It will now be held at the York MIND office - phone Annabel on 07706 691473 or email annabel.martin@yorkadvocacy.org.uk to book



ADDED EVENTS

Wheelchair Rugby League Round Robin at Energise, Cornlands Rd, Acomb, York YO24 3DX from 12pm to 5pm on 23rd November.  It will include inclusion Wheelchair teams from Edinburgh and the Army Rugby League Team alongside York RLFC Wheelchair Team.  For more information, contact Dawn Shore, Inclusion Officer, York RLFC - email: inclusion@yorkrlfc.com; tel: 01904 670880


Disability History Writing Competition, 1st November to 31st December - this competition, run by the The University of York student-run history magazine, York Historian, is open to all University of York students.  Articles can be about any aspect, such as a museum review, moment in history, historical figure – anything you wish, as long as it focuses on disability history. Winners receive a £20 Waterstones voucher!  Articles must adhere to the guidelines, be 600-2000 words, and include four images. Submissions should be emailed to yorkhistorian@yorksu.org

The York Historian runs writing competitions throughout the year and is keen to cover areas of history that are often neglected.  It awards prizes for the most interesting, creative and well-written articles.

Protecting Disability Rights in York - Between Law, Research and Activism 18:30 - 20:00 3rd December  University of York, Ron Cook Hub, RCH 037 and Zoom

On 3 December, the York Law School marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Join us for a roundtable that illustrates that universal human rights begin in 'small places close to home'! T.T. Arvind, Head of the York Law School, Samantha Holmes, York LLM alumna and researcher at the Centre for Applied Human Rights, and Flick Williams, disability rights activist involved in the successful Reverse the Ban coalition will talk disability rights law, research and activism. The event is moderated by York Law School's senior lecturer Joanna Gilmore.
