A traditional house by the sea 海辺の古民家

IBII STAY 2 is a renovated fisherman's house right on Ibii Beach, in a quiet village on the Nichinan coast of southern Miyazaki. Tatami rooms, shoji screens, an earthen-floor entrance (doma) and a loft under the old roof — and out front, the sea. The Kuroshio Current keeps this coast mild most of the year; open the windows and the sea breeze comes straight in.

Hi, we're Kalo and Shotaro. We run both IBII STAY houses ourselves and live close by, so if you need anything — directions, a restaurant booking, a hand with your luggage — just message us and one of us is usually there within minutes.

Houses like this one are slowly disappearing from the Japanese coast. We kept the beams, the tatami and the doma, added what you need to be comfortable, and left the rest to the sound of the waves. There's no TV here — mornings start with the sun coming up over the sea.

Sunrise and the beach
The beach is right in front of the house. Swimming isn't allowed on the beach out front, but the calm river mouth nearby is perfect for a dip. Surfers paddle out right here, and the breaks at Aoshima and Ooura are about 20 minutes by car.

A soak after the sea
Honoka no Yu, a small private onsen, is a one-minute walk away. It's open on weekends and public holidays, and you can book online.

Food
There are no shops or restaurants in the village — part of its charm — so stock up on the way in. The nearest supermarket is Bon Delis in Aoshima (15 min by car, closed Wednesdays), and there's a Lawson convenience store in Uchiumi (10 min). Shan Shan Chaya, two minutes away by car, serves lunch on weekends. Restaurants around here usually need a reservation; we're happy to call for you.

Day trips
Udo Shrine, built into a sea cave, is about 10 minutes away by car, and the old castle town of Obi about 20. Aoshima and its island shrine are an easy drive north; Cape Toi, with its wild horses, is further south.

Good to know ご注意

This is an old house: air-conditioning is limited, and since it's surrounded by nature, you may meet a few insects. In summer the sea breeze keeps it pleasant; in winter, warm up under the kotatsu and listen to the waves.

Getting here アクセス

A car makes life much easier here. Miyazaki Airport is about 30 minutes away by car. Follow Route 220 south along the Nichinan coast; just before the blue “Diamond Ibii” sign, turn left onto the road along the beach. The house is behind the vending machine, with the free beach parking right beside it. By train, Ibii Station on the JR Nichinan Line is a short walk away.

Booking and questions 予約・お問い合わせ

Send us your dates and number of guests with the form on our Book now page or on Instagram (@ibii_stay) — English is fine. Rates vary by season, group size and length of stay. You can check open dates in the calendar at the bottom of this page. Payment is by card in advance, through a secure link we email you once your dates are confirmed. Stays covered by the travel subsidy are paid at the house, in cash or by card. Full cancellation terms are on the Book now page. For stays using the travel subsidy, cancellation fees are based on the full price before the subsidy, because we register the booking with the government subsidy program at that price and must report any cancellation to it.
