Films tell stories through images. The pictures selected to tell the story of a film are carefully considered. Every image in a film relies of the audience's understanding of the "signs" it uses. Film has a language that we are all fluent in, this is how we manage to follow the stories, identify with characters, feel connections or repulsion.
Film makers create images that are carefully arranged and considered in order to communicate quickly and effortlessly with audiences from all over the world.
We must learn to be specific with our intentions: a room becomes this room in film. Images are concrete and the film maker must carefully control all elements in order to communicate effectively.

Exercise: Select a moment from your favorite film, one image that sums up your experience of the whole movie. A Synecdoche (where one part stands for the whole). Write down ten words that describe the thoughts and feelings it stimulates or evokes. Now link each word to a particular part or aspect of that images and reflect on the power that the smallest details can have
