IB Film
TASK – to create a video to accompany “This is Water”, a speech by David Foster Wallace OR your own/an original monologue
What needs to be done:
Choose a 1-minute segment from the speech/record a 1 minute monologue
Make your own recording of it OR use original speech
Decide the sentiment, GENRE INFLUENCES & IDEOLOGY. What is the emotional, psychological, intellectual, etc. angle?
Use images & PACING to convey it. Think about how they will fit together to support the spoken text.
Pay attention to how you will communicate the message visually and try not to assume that your audience is familiar with your piece.
Ask yourself how the sequence will cut together.
How it will sound? This is very pronounced in the Youtube video – and massively impacts IDEOLOGY
What concept/sentiment are you trying to achieve - Realism, Non-realism, Expressionism, Emotion, Documentary, Reportage…
What IDEOLOGY?
Your aim is to create a film in which image and text are inseparable, one in which your chosen sentiment is conveyed through image and text.
