Arcadia University guarantees student placement. You will live in apartment communities within Pangrati.
Pangrati is a residential neighborhood located near the original Olympic Stadium, from the 1896 games, and south of Vas. Konstantinou Avenue, one of Athens' major arteries. Made up of a mix of residences, cafes, shops, and businesses, Pangrati mirrors modern Greece, blending traditional nineteenth-century Athenian family residences and open-air markets with contemporary office buildings and trendy cafes and tavernas. For more, check out one of Arcadia's blog posts about Our Little Barnabas Square.

Arcadia Student Apartments Highlights
Apartments are within 5- to 25-minute walk of the Arcadia Athens Center and have wifi.
Each apartment is self-catering and accommodates 4-5 students, with single and double bedrooms and shared living areas, kitchens and bathrooms. Kitchens are fully furnished with all necessary crockery and cutlery.
Your program fee does not include meals or meal plans but you’ll be within easy reach of food stores and amenities.
It is most common to live in single-gender housing in Greece, but occasionally students may be assigned to mixed-gender housing. In this event, your room will be single-gender, though shared common spaces can be mixed-gender. If you would prefer single-gender housing, note this on your housing form in the housing form in the Arcadia Student Portal.
There is no air conditioning in most Greek homes.
Arcadia provides blankets and pillows – you will need to bring/buy sheets, pillowcases and towels.
Every room is different, and while Arcadia ensures that all rooms satisfy general standards, there is no way to guarantee uniformity of apartment and room sizes, distance from the Arcadia Center, furnishings or facilities.
Academics
All courses are offered through the Arcadia Greece Center. You will have a 4-credit cornerstone course, along with the 3 or 4 electives. For more academic information, view the Arcadia Greece Courses web page.
Registering for courses
Online course registration will take place several weeks before your program begins. You will select your courses based on the timetable provided at that time, and you should use the Academic Preferences Form in the Arcadia Student Portal as a guide.
Transcripts
Transcripts will be sent to Illinois automatically after the end of the program. However, the time for receipt and processing can take a few months. Be patient, and you can track to see when your transcript is received by the Office of the Registrar by when the digital copy is uploaded into your My Study Abroad documents.
Arcadia has a wide range activities to see Greece outside of the classroom. Some examples of potential excursions are:
Watching Olympiakos Football
Complete a Zacharoplasteio Crawl
Hike the Hymettos Mountain
Take cooking lessons
Participate in Film Nights
For more, see their program activities web page.
Previous Illinois Student Quotes
I had class and work Monday‐Thursday, but each class had a mandatory weekend trip so I didn't really have the opportunity to travel outside of Greece.
My internship and independent study were the two classes that I feel I received the most benefit from. I spent the majority of my semester doing economic research and it prepared me and strengthened my knowledge of international economics.
In my apartment the bathroom and kitchen were nice, but the beds were horrible. I know in many of the other apartments were kind of old so there wasn't very fair housing. My apartment was also 15 minutes away from the university while others were less than 2 minutes.
Did not know where the school was located, who was in the program, where I was living, who I was living with, and the class schedule until a couple of days before arrival.
I worked for the Institute of International Economic Relations and I enjoyed my time there. I met a lot of amazing people and my superiors were very helpful.
Prior to departure, contact the U.S. based staff and designated incoming student advisors through email or phone.
When in country, contact the local staff for resources on-site first.
