Polystichum acrostichoides
One of the most common ferns in NYS, Christmas ferns are evergreen and can thus be noticed by their dark green color even through the winter season. The frond is largely upright, and each pinnae feels leathery and takes on Christmas stocking-like shape!
Parathelypteris noveboracensis
Native to NYS, New York ferns can be easily confused with other similar ferns. They have light green fronds, and are very wispy. The most telling feature is the tapering at both ends. To help you remember, think of the phrase "New Yorkers burn the candle at both ends of the stick"!
Pteridium aquilinum
Fairly easy to identify, bracken can be primarily identified by its triangular fronds.
