2nd Short-term Exchange

8-12 May 2017

Tarragona, Spain

On Monday 8 we got our first impression of this beautiful city: Tarragona through a guided tour (“A Walk through History”); Delegations had a reception at the Townhall, where an educational authority welcomed us and even guided us around the amazing Town Hall building. In the afternoon we walked from the old town to the opposite side of the city to visit Tarragona's maritime district.

On Tuesday 9 we had an outing to Camarles & Delta de l'Ebre to visit the production process of rice, a local produce with Protected Dessignation of Origin. A guided tour through the interpretive centre of rice allowed us to understand how it works; Afterwards, we took part in a very entertaining workshop on rice growing and other traditional rural tasks typical from the area such as punting. We ended the day with a nice sightseeing around the National Park in Ebro Delta.

On Wednesday 10 partner school presented their school systems. In the morning, we attended a series of different workshops to enrich both body and mind. Zumba and Capoeira workshops made us sweat while the workshop on Multiple intelligences allowed us to understand better how we learn the best; Students and teachers also participated in the theoretical part of the workshop: Human Towers, an introduction to a Catalan tradition; through explanations and games we learnt what this Catalan tradition consist of, the vocabulary connected to it, which values it fosters, and how it can contribute to a healthy leisure or to increase physical activity. In the evenig we complemented this theory with an incredible practical part in the headquarters of Colla Jove, one of Tarragona's most well-known human towers building teams. We learnt how to climb up a tower and had a great time. Before that we there had also been a very special activity ready for us: a quiz around Tarragona in which several teams (each one consisting of Portugeuese, GReek and Spanish students) had to complete different tasks and challenges in a race to discoverTarragona's many hidden secrets; Workshop on Human Towers (part II, practical part):

On Thursday 11 the weather was terrible. We were supposed to create a grafitti to be displayed on the school's front wall which depicted the spirit of the project as well as the cooperation of Tarragona, Barcelos and Thessaloniki. We had had created a sketch before the mobility but because it rained cats and dogs we couldn't do this activity. This piece of art was changed for a funny photocall for the farewell party which included some of the most representative topics of the three partner countries. We also got acquainted with one of the most popular art techniques: trencadís, which was used by Gaudi, the famous Catalan architect. We completed together a mosaic indoors.

Wwe were lucky enough and eventually, the sun shone again and we could go on the scheduled excursion along the sea side and take part in a great workshop on water sports on the beach. We spent the whole afternoon surfing, paddle canoeing and kayaking.

On our last day (Friday 12) we took the train to visit amazing Barcelona, where we could admire some of Gaudi's best-known works; Although we all came back quite exhausted after a very busy day, we were excited about the evening farewell party organized by students, parents and teachers. Parents showed us how a tasty traditional dishis as fideuà is cooked (they use an anormous pan!) and Spanish students made an exhibition of typical dances. Right before the certificate awarding ceremony teachers, students and families ended up dancing those traditional dances from Greece students had learnt during the prior mobility to Thessaloniki.
