The course aims to develop practical and creative skills in reading and writing; introduce us to the fundamental techniques of writing fiction, poetry, and drama; and discuss the use of such techniques by well-known authors in a variety of genres. Each class will be devoted to the examination of techniques and to the workshop of our drafts toward the enrichment of their manuscripts. We will learn how to combine inspiration and revision, and to develop a sense of form.
IMAGERY
Imagery is a descriptive language use to appeal to reader's senses.
Appeals to sense of sight.
Appeals to sense of hearing.
Appeals to sense of smell.
Appeals to sense of taste.
Appeals to sense of touch.
DICTION
Diction refers to the author's choice of words.
A diction that creates a sense of authority and include words or phrases would typically not to be used in everyday conversation.
It is a diction that used a word or phrases that we used in everyday conversation with friends and family.
It contains newly recognized terms that are particularly distinctive to a place and time.

It is conversational in nature and can be seen through the use of informal words that represent a specific place or time.
LITERARY DEVICES
Literary devices are techniques that writers use to express their ideas and enhance their writing. Literary devices highlight important concepts in a text, strengthen the narrative, and help readers connect to the characters and themes.

POETRY
Poetry is a form of literature in which language is chosen and organized for its meaning, sound, and rhythm to inspire a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience or a specific emotional response.
FORMS OF POETRY
TRADITIONAL POETRY
Haiku is the 5-7-5 structure, where:
The entire poem consists of just three lines, with 17 syllables in total.
The first line is 5 syllables.
The second line is 7 syllables.
The third line is 5 syllables.
The basic structure of a tanka poem is 5 – 7 – 5 – 7 – 7.
There are 5 syllables in line 1,
7 syllables in line 2,
5 syllables in line 3,
and 7 syllables in lines 4 and 5.
SPOKEN POETRY
Spoken word poetry is poetry that is written on a page but performed for an audience. Because it is performed, this poetry tends to demonstrate a heavy use of rhythm, improvisation, free association, rhymes, rich poetic phrases, word play and slang.
This spoken poetry was performed by Jelyn Balasabas, and edited by our subject teacher Ms. Leah Joy Dadivas. It is all about the pandemic that we are all facing today, the invisible villain named COVID-19.
FREE VERSE POETRY
Free verse poems have no regular meter or rhythm. They do not follow a proper rhyme scheme; these poems do not have any set rules. This type of poem is based on normal pauses and natural rhythmical phrases, as compared to the artificial constraints of normal poetry.
RHYMED POETRY
A rhymed poem is a work of poetry that contains rhyming vowel sounds at particular moments.

An acrostic poem is a poem where certain letters in each line spell out a word or phrase. Typically, the first letters of each line are used to spell the message, but they can appear anywhere.
FICTION
Fiction is a form of literature that is created from imagination. It is not presented as a fact though it may be based on a true story or situation.
Elements of the story are important in creating a story or the pieces or parts that make up a story. There are 5 basic important elements to keep the story running smoothly and allow the action to develop in a logical way that the reader can follow.
These five components are the following:
Where or when the story happens. The setting represents the location, time, and cultural condition in which the characters exist.
A person\s who plays a vital role in a story. It can be a protagonist or a main character and antagonist or a villain.
Idea, belief, moral, lesson, or insight of the story. This is the central argument that the author wish to covey to his\her readers.
The plot is consists of 5 events that happen in the story. The plot has 5 components exposition or introduction, rising action, climax, the falling action, and resolution or denouement.
Every story must have a conflict. These are the challenges or problems that the main character experience in the story.

THE KISSING BOOTH FUN FACT:
The film was originally an original story written on Wattpad by the 15-year-old Beth Reekles.
The Kissing Booth won the Most Popular Teen Fiction award on Wattpad and garnered 19 million reads on the site alone. Soon after, Beth was given a three book deal with Random House, eventually leading to news of a Netflix adaptation of the story in early 2017.
