Salvia involucrata

This salvia is also known as Rosebud Sage. Here is a salvia that we tried for the first time in 2004. Like some of the other prime hummingbird flowers, this bloomed during the height of the southward migration in August and September. The hummers used this flower extensively, and it was quite a pleasing sight to see this. The picture above shows good detail of the flowers, however the colors are somewhat washed out by the camera's flash. The picture below is a better representation of the flower's colors.
