Common names for this plant are Britton's Wild Petunia. Mexican Bluebell and Mexican Petunia. This plant is native to Central and South America and the Caribbean. It spreads by rhizomes and self seeding in the garden and has aggressively naturalized in South Carolina, Texas and Hawaii. This plant is categorized as an invasive species in Florida where it has displaced native plants. Our Ruellia is blooming in a pot and our cold winter climate in Wisconsin prevents the seeds from surviving.Â
