This is an old world perennial (zones 4 to 8) salvia that is native to central and southern Europe and western Asia. In our Wisconsin garden, this blooms in early to mid summer. Hummingbirds usually do not go to old world Salvias. But, we have observed hummingbirds at these yellow flowers many times over numerous years. (The hummingbirds have obviously not read the books that state that they should only go to the new world tropical salivas.) We have pulled flowers out of the calyces and have found copious nectar in the base of the flower.
