Please review the checkoff rubric, the PowerPoint, and the instructional videos below to prepare for this skill checkoff. All of these items can also be found in your course shell.
There will be very limited time to practice this before your checkoff, so coming prepared is in your best interest.
You will only be allowed a maximum of two (2) attempts.
Remember, you must also complete and pass the associated quiz before attending intensives.

Place patient in Semi-Fowler's position: 30-45 degrees
Turn on the suction before opening the kit to keep from contaminating the sterile field.
Open the sterile kit away from your body.
Suctioning is a sterile procedure.
Changing the inner cannula can be an aseptic procedure as long as you do not touch the inner cannula and only touch the clips on the outside.
Place the new trach tie/holder over the old one when removing.
