"... the northern part of Japan, facing the Pacific Ocean is hit very hard, and even now people there are under terrible suffering.
People in Tokyo are also forced to endure a tremendous amount of inconveniences, such as electricity shortage and transportation problems.
Therefore, it may be difficult to get in touch with friends living in Tokyo, not to mention in Tohoku area.
So please allow me to convey some information I have got through friends, though it is very limited.
Noburu Notomi circulated an email informing us that Prof. Yasuo Iwata is alive, although his house was situated in the area hit by the tsunami.
John Ferrari sent me an email, saying that he could get in touch with Satoshi Ogihara, who is working at Tohoku University."
Thanks to Prof. Kanayama!)
Pisa, 15.03.11
Dear Collegues,
I am sure to express the feelings of all members showing to the Japanese colleagues of our Society deep sorrow and solidarity for the terrible disaster that struck their wonderful country. Only a few months ago the Tokyo Organizing Committee hosted our Symposium on Plato's Republic with perfect coordination and extraordinary kindness. We all have learned to know better and to love more deeply the Japanese people!
Sincerely,
Mauro Tulli
