FINGER DRESSINGS
A tubifast applicator is often supplied with tubifast. . Tubifast 001 is for fingers, but a big toe needs a wider tubifast, otherwise it won't fit on and also be too tight. Tubifast applicator helps apply tubifast over a dressing and stops dressing from moving or bunching up.
You will need to stretch open tubifast if no applicator. This is easiest with the wider size than a tight size 001. If there is tingling, numbness or pain that was not present before dressing , the tape may be too tight or the twist in the tubigauze is pushing on wound. Looseen all.
To keep dry in shower wear disposable gloves on hand or over foot
Cut a length double the length of the finger or toe and push onto applicator
Here you have a gauze and under that is a atrauman or jelonet to stop wound sticking to the dressings
Put applicator over the finger and push down the tubifast onto finger.
Tip hold bottom of the gauze/melolin when pulling off the applicator as it can come off with it
Twist the applicator once and push the applicator back over the first layer. and tape around the base, not over a joint and not too tight
HOW TO
This ovelay is too short and needs to be longer to the base of the first layer.
Instead of twisting at the top is just folding the remaining length over the finger and taping. This may be a more comfortable less tighter option as the knot can be uncomforatble
TOES
Tubifast 001 can be used for small toes but a larger one is needed for a big toe, to fit over dressings and being a larger toe.
Push a double length of toe length over applicator
Perform a twist, but not a double twist as the knot will cause pressure on the tip of the toe
An easier way is to lie the second length over top with a bit of looseness
Tape long ways at the base at front of the toe, pushing the toe downward before you tape to stop tape drag and pulling when walking.
You may need more tape across ways at the base to anchor. This depends on whether you use paper of mefix tape
Push toe up as you tape. As you can see paper tape is messy and has folds. Often one has to use lots of tape to stick it all down. Try to avoid folds, especially in between toes, and use a mefix more flexible bandage.
