Santa Clara es la capital de la provincia cubana de Villa Clara. En la Plaza de la Revolución está el conjunto escultórico levantado por el escultor José Delarra, dedicado al Che Guevara. En su base hay un Mausoleo, donde descansan los restos del renombrado revolucionario desde 1997.

Un camino sobre el mar llamado predaplen- de 48 kilómetros de extensión sirve de enlace entre la mayor ínsula del archipiélago cubano y los cayos Santa María, Las Brujas, Ensenachos, Cobos, Majá, Fragoso, Francés, Las Picúas y Español de Adentro, entre otros; ubicados todos en la provincia de Villa Clara.
A road over the sea called predaplen- 48 kilometers in length serves as a link between the largest island of the Cuban archipelago and the keys Santa Maria, Las Brujas, Ensenachos, Cobos, Majá, Fragoso, French, Las Picúas and Spanish of Adentro, between others; located all in the province of Villa Clara.

La zona que ocupa el central Marcelo Salado Lastra (Reforma), posee una larga historia y tradición azucarera que comienza con la construcción de los primeros trapiches e ingenios durante el siglo XVIII y se extiende hasta el siglo XIX. Es importante destacar el llamado “Boom” azucarero en la antigua jurisdicción remediana, que tuvo lugar entre los años 1840 al 1860. Originalmente tuvo su impulso por el capital de colonos venidos desde Matanzas y Colón que invirtieron en esta región, convirtiéndola en el último eslabón del auge azucarero en la Isla. Este impulso posibilitó la introducción del ferrocarril, creándose la línea férrea Remedios-Caibarién en 1851 que permitió transportar la mercancía directamente hasta el puerto de Caibarién. A esto se une la sustitución de la fuerza animal por la máquina de vapor, que cambia definitivamente el trapiche por el ingenio. A partir del año 2002 la industria azucarera en cuba pasó por un proceso de reestructuración donde este fue asignado a museo dirigido a la conservación de la industria.
