A Cataract is a disease or an eye disorder found in the eyes. A Cataract is a cloudy area that forms in the lens of the eyes, It occurs when clumps are formed due to the proteins of the eye that prevent the lens from sending clear images to the retina (layer of cells lining the back wall inside the eye.) Cataracts usually develop slowly over time, people with Cataracts develop symptoms like blurry vision. If no treatment is given, it will eventually lead to total blindness.
SYMPTOMS:
Trouble seeing at night.
Fading of colors.
Blurry or clouded vision.
Eye sensitivity to light at night.
When looking at lights, vision of the eyes sees "halos."
High blood pressure or Hypertension. High blood pressure is a major cause of why Cataracts develop. The blood vessels found in the eye can also be damaged by High blood pressure. High blood pressure can also successfully increase or develop the formation of the Cataracts found in the eyes.
Smoking. Smoking is one of the major factors or causes of a variety of health problems. Cataracts are developed by smoking because smoking causes changes to occur in the eyes which then could lead to vision loss, and other eye disorders such as Cataracts.
Recent eye surgeries. Recent eye surgeries would have this common complication or conflict. When the back of the lens capsule, that wasn't removed during the process of the surgery would become cloudy and damage your vision.
Too much exposure to sunlight. Too much exposure to sunlight can impair the eye lens proteins which can contribute to the developing of Cataracts.
Diabetes. Like High blood pressure, high blood sugar can also contribute to the changes of structure of the lens of the eye which could lead to the development of Cataracts.
HOW TO PREVENT GETTING CATARACTS:
Have a healthy diet. Choosing to eat fruits and vegetables, like carrots are rich in Vitamin A that helps with vision, especially night vision, the ability of your eyes to adjust during night or darkness.
Have regular eye examinations. These can detect whether or not your eyes are infected with Cataracts.
Quit or give up smoking. Smoking doubles the chances of you getting Cataracts, it increases the amount of free radicals found in your eyes (what causes Cataracts to develop.).
