• About renting apartments

This site is maintained by the tenant committee members. We are regular tenants just like you, so quite frankly we have no additional knowledge to add about rental things. In such topics and questions, contact HOAS directly.

• Laundry rooms and their use

In the Viikki area every HOAS-property offers their tenants a laundry room for free. Book your own time for laundry at booking.hoas.fi. Your login information have been sent to the email you've registered to HOAS. If you cannot find them, try contacting HOAS customer service.

• Saunas and their use

Every HOAS-tenant in Viikki has the opportunity to go to a sauna in either their own or nearby building. HOAS offers common sauna shifts as well as private sauna times that you need to book for yourself from booking.hoas.fi, from which you can also find available saunas there.

• Storage rooms and bike storages

Each of our HOAS-property has a bike storage room for bikes and a general storage for the tenants' own stuffs and things.
Each tenant however might not have their very own storage cage. Primarily you should use the storage cage that corresponds to your apartment's number, but if already taken you can use another cage. In any case you should write down your apartment's number and name down on the cage you decide to use. You need to get a lock for yourself. Same logic applies to bike storage.

• There is no room in the storage room! What can I do?

Unfortunately this is a known and unfortunate situation. The tenant committee has attempted to empty to storage rooms for quite a while now but so far with little results. We're still working on this matter. Unluckily there is very little we can do to this matter.
If you feel optimistic you can however contact HOAS directly about the issue.

• My bike cannot fit in the bike storage! What can I do?

This is another unfortunately common and regrettable problem. We recommend to contact HOAS on this matter.

• About heating in the apartments

The apartments have an automatic heating system that cannot be adjusted. The temperature adjusts automatically according to the temperature outside so especially at the autumn and spring, when temperature changes rapidly the apartments can be rather cold at times. You can read more about the heating of the apartments on HOAS website. If you think the heating is broken, send a fault report.

• Internet and HOAS-net

Every HOAS-property in Viikki gets to enjoy a free and fast internet connection that HOAS offers. The internet service provider varies from building to building so we recommend that you read more about this matter on HOAS website.

• Recycling and garbage handling

Please do recycle! In Viikki most properties offer a chance for recycling right next to the door and at the door of the next property. Please note that old and unused furniture and items are not meant to be left laying around near the trash bins — same applies to electronic waste. Don't put them into the trash bins either, but get rid of them appropriately. If, for example, you cannot get your things sold take them to the HSY Sortti Station.

• I cannot find plastic recycling bin, where is it?

Plastic recycling is coming to every HOAS property in the future, but it is not there quite yet. HOAS has announced that plastic recycling should be coming very soon, or at least they promised us that they'd work on this.

• The trash bins are completely full, I cannot fit anything there!

From time to time the trash bins can overflow, especially during autumn cardboard piles up in astonishing amounts. There is not much that can be done to this. If you notice that certain trash bins are constantly full we recommend that you send a fault report to HOAS.

• Parking spaces and renting them

You can rent a parking space for your own car. HOAS offers parking space at each property but because there are way more cars than space, the situation that no space is free comes up very often. This is why we recommend that you apply parking space from other nearby properties simultaneously. This increases your chances to get your own parking space faster.

• Guests coming over — I don't have a parking space, what to do?

In some HOAS-properties a free temporary guest parking spaces are also offered for a short-time use. So if you don't have your own spot ready try to check if your property offers guest parking, if not try to check the neighboring HOAS-property.  There are also a number of street-side parking spaces available that can be used with a parking disc. If luck is not on your side, we recommend asking your neighbors. Perhaps their parking space might happen to be free just at the right time?

• Public transport

When your mind needs a break from Viikki or you just can't bother to walk you can use public transportation. There are good public transport pathways out and into Viikki, wherever you want to go to. HSL website offer accurate and updated information on routes, which helps you to navigate around.

• Shops and other services in Viikki

Viikki could be called a safe haven in Helsinki. Here one can live a rather free life. The general grocery stores nearby are Viikki Prisma, K-Supermarket. You can also find a small store, Alepa. Bigger stores reside in Itäkeskus that can be reached via a bus in a moment. If your mind wants to go farther, you can also head towards Siilitie metro station or directly towards the central city.

Hallainvuori and the fields of Viikki offer amazing opportunities to outdoor activities and refreshing scenery. For indoor sports you can check out the Viikin Monitoimitalo that locates in the center of Viikki. Libraries are inside the university campus area. For culinary experience you can visit the campus' student cafeterias or go to any one of the numerous restaurants of Viikki.
