Expectations

Chess club Expecations

Chess club runs from 3:15 until 4:15 and meets in the media center.  Tournaments are also played in the media center.  Students must be picked up at the front of the school by no later than 4:30.  Mr. Gassmann volunteers his time and can not wait for students to be picked up late.  If your ride is later than 4:30 on numerous occasions, then you will no longer be able to stay for the chess club. All students will be walked to the front of the school and will be ready for pick up by 4:15.  All HMS students are allowed to attend and may miss some meetings.  HMS code of conduct is expected.  We have no limit on the number of chess club members and in order to function as a club – HMS conduct is paramount.  We know students may be tracked out on some of these dates – they can come to school at 3:15 and join us or miss the meeting.

Chess CLub Rules

Chess Club is designed to be a laid-back environment where people can enjoy playing chess and hanging out with friends. Please read and acknowledge the following rules to ensure we keep Chess Club an enjoyable atmosphere where everyone is welcome. Have fun and good luck!

Whether at school or being dropped off, please do not arrive at the media center until 3:15. Anyone who comes early will be sent back to their classroom or asked to wait outside the media center.

You may check-in beginning at 3:15. Please check-in before you start playing and leave all items in the portion of the media center not being used for playing chess.

Please be respectful to all club officers, other players, the space you are in, and the equipment you are using. Anyone who causes problems will be asked to leave.

Being respectful to your environment includes using a low-talking voice to avoid disturbing other players. When an officer or Mr. Gassmann is speaking, please be respectful.

Please be honest at all times when buying concessions. It is your responsibility to keep track of the money and items you spend, give, and receive. All money used is expected to be your own, with the exception of items bought for you by friends or initials given by Mr. Gassmann.

Please report any problem to our President. For severe issues or important questions, respectfully ask Mr. Gassmann. Be civil when playing and be a good sport whether you win or lose.

We clean up at 4:10. Please make sure all your chess items are put away neatly and correctly, push in your chair, make sure your area is neat and clean, and check to ensure you have all of your belongings.

If you are leaving or have a change of plans, inform Mr. Gassmann before you go. Once you have left the building, WCPSS policy does not allow you to reenter.

We loathe informing students they can no longer stay for Chess Club because their ride has arrived later than 4:30 to pick them up on numerous occasions. Please make sure you and your parent have planned appropriately on meeting and tournament days. Refer to the calendar for more details.

If you need to use the bathroom or get a drink, you may do so and do not have to ask. However, we ask that you be responsible at all times and respectful of school property.

You are responsible for your own travel plans and must coordinate with your parents prior to attending Chess Club. As meetings and tournaments take place after school hours, you will not have access to a school phone. Please plan accordingly. Announcements will be made before meetings and tournaments, and a link to our schedule can be found below.

Thank you, and have fun!
