Dividing Decimals

To divide decimals, you can follow these steps:

• 1. Convert the divisor to a whole number
  Move the decimal point to the right until there are no decimal places remaining. 

• 2. Move the decimal point in the dividend
  Move the decimal point in the dividend the same number of places and in the same direction as the divisor. 

• 3. Perform long division
  Follow the same rules as other long division problems. 

• 4. Position the decimal point in the quotient
  Place the decimal point in the quotient directly above the decimal point in the dividend. 

Here's an example of dividing decimals: 

• Problem: Divide 6.3 by 0.7

• Solution:

  • Multiply the divisor by 10 to convert it to a whole number: 0.7 x 10 = 7

  • Multiply the dividend by 10 to convert it to a whole number: 6.3 x 10 = 63

  • Perform the division: 63 ÷ 7 = 9

Dividing decimals is similar to dividing whole numbers, but you need to be careful to move the decimal point correctly.
