Comparing Decimals

To compare decimals, you can follow these steps:

1.  Align the numbers : Line up the numbers by the decimal point.

2.  Start with the largest place value : Compare the numbers starting with the largest place value

3.  Continue comparing : If the numbers are the same, continue to compare the numbers in the next place value to the right.

4.  Write a comparison statement : When you find a difference or there are no more digits to compare, write a comparison statement using the symbols >, <, or =.

Here are some things to keep in mind when comparing decimals:

• Decimals are compared in the same way as whole numbers.

• The place values after the decimal point start with tenths, hundredths, and so on.

• If the digits before the decimal point are equal, compare the digits after the decimal point.

• If the digits are unequal, the comparison is done at that step.

Comparing decimals means finding out the larger and the smaller decimal number in a given set of numbers. Decimal numbers can be compared in the same way as we compare other numbers. However, we need to remember that the digits that are placed after the decimal point also need to be considered.
