Rationale

As part of the national government program to improve the quality and quantity of skilled manpower for the hi-tech industry, the Ministry of Education's English Department has designed and is implementing a program of hi-tech English for junior high students.

The program is aimed at students in science and technology classes (עמ"ט), and its purpose is to advance and enrich these students in the English language skills required for the hi-tech world, including the following:

• Hi-tech vocabulary and terminology

• Spoken and written communication

• Persuasion and argumentation

• Public speaking and presentation

The method by which these goals will be addressed is by providing the students with extra learning time at school which will be devoted to the project and also providing the students and teachers with advanced digital and AI tools to use for learning and practice.

In summary, the project has three main focuses:

1. Improving speaking skills

2. Expanding knowledge of hi-tech subject matter

3. Using Digital and AI learning tools

The role of teachers in this project is to implement speaking activities in their lessons and also to encourage and facilitate their students' use of digital and AI tools for individual practice and development.

Progress in this project will be monitored by the Ministry, and as part of this process, the students will be evaluated on their speaking skills to give them feedback on how they are advancing.
