2 large eggs

Cinnamon sugar

● We will be getting all the ingredients from Giant

Equipment needed:

Bowl

Mixing Spoon

Piping bag

Scissors

Plate

Sifter

Thermometer

Pot

Saucepan

Directions:

  1. On medium heat in a saucepan add water butter and sugar and bring to a boil, add the vanilla, turn off the heat and then add flour and salt and stir until thickened and let cool.

  2. Add eggs into the cooled mixture. Once all combined transfer mixture into a piping bag.

  3. In a large pot over medium heat add enough oil to fill 1 inch up the pan. From there heat up the oil to 375 degrees. While holding the piping bag over the oil squeeze until the dough is about six inches long and use scissors to cut the dough.

  4. Then let the dough cook in the oil for about 4-5 minutes until golden brown.

  5. After that remove the churros from the oil and roll in cinnamon sugar and let cool.

  6. Enjoy with chocolate dipping sauce or plain!

Plan:

We plan to prepare this dish before the day of the cook out and heat it up when we arrive.

History:

The history of the churro is split between the Spaniards and the Portuguese. Some believe that the Spaniards “invented” churros because they were easy to make and cook over a fire in a pan since they lived high in the mountains with no access to bakeries. The Spaniard Shepherds were more responsible for creating churros. Others believe that the Portuguese found a similar dish in China and brought that idea back with them. They then made it their own dish by modifying the shape of the churro to have that classic star shaped look.
